說到午餐lunch，其表達可不完全和“吃”有關，小伙伴們千萬別理解錯了。

如果你想表達“帶某人出去吃飯”，可以說take sb (out) to lunch。但out to lunch卻沒有這個意思，真正表達的是“瘋狂的，注意力不集中，心不在焉，神志不清”。

例句：

You must have been out to lunch when you wrote that weird report.

當你做這個奇怪的報告的時候，你一定是神志不清的。

It seems that you were out to lunch in class.

你上課時似乎心不在焉。

I'll take you out to lunch when I get back.

lose one's lunch

lose one's lunch是個美式俚語，字面意思是“丟掉了午餐”，實際表達是“嘔吐，沒胃口”（to throw up/vomit）。你還可以用toss one’s lunch來表達覺得惡心。

free lunch

中文里有俗語“天下沒有免費的午餐”，英文也有，那就是free lunch。free lunch指“不費力或者不付出代價就能白白獲得的東西”。

He’ll hardly offer you a job if you don’t contribute to his party; there’s no free lunch in political campaigns.

power lunch

power lunch是“午餐會”，指“公司人員（通常是高層）在吃午餐時開的會”（an occasion at which people eat lunch while they are working and talking about business）。

ladies who lunch

ladies who lunch指的是花大量時間用來社交的人，通常是指“有錢又閑”的人。在過去有錢人家的太太們會在吃精致又貴的午餐時侃侃而談，進行社交。

這個短語來自美國作曲作詞家史蒂芬·桑德海姆（Stephen Sondheim）上世紀70年代的一首歌：
