This is about our parents, grandparents, etc. having to choose between paying for medications or eating and the like.
I have seen in fast food restaurants, retail stores, grocery stores, etc. elderly people working. These lovely people are being forced back into the work force because the economy is so bad. I think that we will see more of this in the coming year before things get any better, if they do. Some of them have to move in with their children or grand children and that isn't right at all. Also, employment is harder to get into because companies are either cutting hours or are laying people off. It is hard times for everyone these days.
All we can do for these people at this time is show them respect and do what we can to help. When you go into these places, don't treat them like they are stupid or ignorant. In these hard economic times, the elderly, and people in general have no choice but to work at these places. Some may have doctorates or bachelor's degrees but because of layoffs or cutbacks, this may be their only or second job.
Have more consideration and love for people because you have no idea about the circumstances they are experiencing at this time. I feel fortunate to have a job with everyone around me losing theirs. So be nice and think before you go somewhere and are rude to someone. They may be in a financial crisis and have no choice but to work there.
