I always feel that I'm not performing my fullest potential. In fact, it has been said that we are only using 1% of what our brains are capable of doing. I also feel that I can do much more than what I'm doing now. So what's stopping me and how do I overcome this under-achieving attitude in me.
1) Grab that Opportunity
The opportunity to do certain things in life can present itself in unexpected ways. I have always wanted to write a book, any book for that matter. I have thought of writing a children's book or a self-help book. I have also thought of writing an assessment book for students. My main aim of writing a book is to generate residual income for me and my family.
The opportunity for me to write an assessment book came to me recently via a friend. I have never thought that he'd invite me to be part of a team to write a book. I'm hesitant in my heart. There are many thoughts that went through my head. Will I be able to keep up with the writing? What if the other writers do not like what I wrote?
But, you know what? I'm going to put all these negative thoughts aside and grab that opportunity. It's going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. How often do other people ask you to write a book with them? I'm thirthy-three and this is actually the first time someone asked me. So, I'm going to go for it.
2) Garner Support
If you can gather a few people to push you to do things together, you will find it even easier to achieve greater things in life. If you can't seem to bring yourself to do it alone, then garner support from other people who has the same goals as you.
If you want to write a book, you may want to join a writers' club in your neighbourhood. Seeing real people getting published may just inspire you to do the same. As for me, I keep in touch with some people at an online forum. They have been a frequent nudge in my you-know-where when I'm not in the mood to write. They have been my source of inspiration when they tell me that they have published their own books. They have been my greatest motivation when they tell me the number of articles they have written and published online. So it is important to be in a circle of supportive group of people to push you to greater heights.
3) Bit by Bit
You have to start somewhere. Some goals, like writing a book, may take some time before they get accomplished. The important thing is to begin. That very first step you take towards achieving your goal is going to the hardest, but subsequent ones will be much easier. Still, there will be times when you're not motivated or other things come in your way, and you forget your prime objective.
Here's what I plan to do to begin writing a book. If you have been writing short articles on a regular basis through a blog or writing site, writing a book will be much easier. Let's say you have written about leading a frugal life and you have gathered so many money-saving tips along the way. You can gather all these great articles and organize them in a sensible way that can eventually form a book. That is exactly how I plan to begin writing a book.
Achieving greater heights may be easier than we think. If you feel that you are under-achieving in some areas in your life, check to see if you have been presented with the opportunity to do so. If yes, grab them quick. If you have been harbouring thoughts about writing a book for years, maybe it is time to share them with others who have the same goals as you. See if you can collaborate efforts to achieve your goals together. But it all still depends on you to make that very first move. So start today!
