What do you do when you get a cold? More so, what do you do to avoid getting a cold? I have heard about so many home remedies for and preventive actions against the common cold. Yet the common cold just seems to be just that – all too common.
The usual way by which a lot of people try to fend off colds is to ingest large quantities of vitamin C. Now I am not saying that this does not work – I actually am a huge believer in this method. Research also shows that regular intake of this vitamin helps maintain one’s immune system. No conclusive evidence has been found to show that vitamin C does boost one’s immune system, though. So maybe I am not doing it right…
Some research, however, has shown that exercise can actually help keep the cold away. According to The American Journal of Medicine, people who exercise caught fewer colds throughout the whole year. The amount of exercise involved in the study was about 45 minutes of brisk walking everyday (5 days a week). I also read some practical tips for exercise to fight colds in Big Beautiful You. Some exercises which are “easy” to do are walking and ice skating. I, myself, prefer my elliptical bike because of the convenience of not having to leave the house and get dressed properly for exercise. However, I am sure that there are other ways to get some exercise into your routine – it really all depends on your preferences and schedule.
